Well its off to Dublin today. Plan is to return the car to the airport and cab it to out hotel in Dublin.
Last evening when we were out for dinner we met a wonderful couple at the restaurant. Gary & Michelle form the U.S. Ended up at McDerrott’s, Singing, Drinking and just having a great time. Well we found out they were also headed to Dublin for a couple of days to end their trip.
So now the plan was to get together for more drinks and dinner in Dublin.
Headed out from Doolin, north toward Galway by way of the Burren. Following the sea coast as we drove. The views again were spectacular.
The drive took a bit longer then expected but we made it to return the car, checked in for our flight and grab a cab to the hotel.
Cab driver was the nicest guy. We got to chatting about our week here and that we are planning on returning. Casually asked does he work the taxi as his main job. As a matter of fact Jim says, no, I am an actor as well. Oh we say, could we have seen you in anything recently? As a matter of fact Jim says, have you heard of this series Game of Thrones?
Carol and I look at each other and stereophonically exclaim, YES. Jim says I had a small part in Season 8. At this point my brain is search for his face from the episodes. Back of my mind I see a helmet and as he explains and I realize, Yes, you were the General who lays down his sword to John Snow in the final battle in Kings Landing. As a matter of fact that is correct. Got to love chance meetings of real people.
Arrived at the hotel and Got a few selfies with Jim and got settled in. Met up with Gary & Michelle in the Temple Bar area. Not realizing that there had been a very big rugby match played today, we began to wonder if there was going to be any place to get into for dinner and a few pints.
The city was jammed. If you actually wanted to get into a pub in Temple Bar area, you may never make it out until it closed. Spilling into the streets the area was alive with plenty of fans and partygoers.
After 2 hours of wandering around trying to find an authentic pub, we settle for dinner and a few pints across the river where the crowds were not as abundant. By this time Carol and her hip were done. Said our good nights to our fellow travellers and headed back to our room.
Thank you Ireland for a great week of wonderful people, great views, flavorful brews and generally a great time.
